European Agricultural Co-operatives and the Competition Law and Policy in Europe

Competition Policy - Are all Company Forms Equal ?

INVITATION TO THE PRESS

COGECA Conference on "European agricultural co-operatives and the competition law and policy in Europe" on 13th November 2003 in Helsinki.

The European agricultural co-operative sector intends to carry out a stocktaking exercise of the present situation so as to check whether the specificities of the co-operative entrepreneurial system are sufficiently taken into account in the European competition policy.

At the same time, following the reform of the European competition law, the sector would also like to ensure that the national authorities play their role and endeavour that their interpretations of the competition law are as close to one another as possible so as to avoid distortions of competition between Member States.

In order to tackle these important issues, Mr. Marcus H. BORGSTRÖM, President of the General Committee for Agricultural Co-operation in the EU, COGECA, is pleased to invite you to a conference which will focus on the theme: European agricultural co-operatives and the competition law and policy in Europe. High level speakers such as Mr. Mario MONTI, EU Commissioner for Competition, and Mr. Mauri PEKKARINEN, Finnish Minister of Trade and Industry, will participate in this important event. (The programme of the conference is available on : www.copa-cogeca.be).

The conference will take place in Helsinki, Finland, on 13 November 2003 at the Helsinki Fair Centre, Messuaukio 1, 00520 Helsinki (FIN), Tel. +358 9 150 91, http://www.finnexpo.fi, E-mail: info@finnexpo.fi.
