Looking out for your interests
The strength of cooperative action in a market economy is based on a unification of the
roles of the customer, producer and owner. As a central cooperative board, Pellervo
Confederation looks out for its members' social interests. We work, domestically as well
as internationally, to create an atmosphere beneficial for cooperative business in
society. We focus specially on the follow-up of legislative issues, as well as
economic and trade policies.

In collaboration with our member organizations, Pellervo takes an active part in
planning the framework for cooperative actions, as well as in the development of
legislation affecting the training of personnel.

Development of public relations in the cooperative business
In pursuit of our members' interests, the familiarity of
cooperative action is increased on several levels of the society. This is especially true
among the more influential members of our society, those who deal with current
issues, influence public opinion and make policies and among the youth. We communicate our values, modes of
operation and profitability through channels such as the following:

Start package for the personnel
Pellervo produces for each new administrative officer of the cooperation a
start package. It includes a manual for an administrative officer, start folder
and the Osuustoiminta (Cooperative Action) Magazine at a membership price. The
manual will help to acquainted with the new Cooperation Act, which will come
into force in the beginning of 2002.
Planning of the History Project
Pellervo offers help in planning for free for the cooperative businesses who
wish to produce their own history publication.

International servicing of our customers' needs and organizational connections
The focus of our international activity is to follow business-related social
developments so that we are able to act as informatively as possible and to influence the
debate on current issues, based on the best interests of our members.
Pellervo Confederation is a member of several international cooperative organizations
such as The International Cooperative Alliance - ICA, - COGECA, - IFAP and -
NBC.
Through these organizations we in Pellervo follow up and inform our members as
to international developments and safeguard the interests of our members in these
organizations.
The Pellervo Brussels office operates on different European Union Boards and in
several international cooperative organizations to influence and to follow up on the
developments of critical issues, always looking out for the best interests of our
members.

Organisational Activity and Communication
The development of operational conditions in companies is based on a broad and open
interaction between different interests in society.
A constant change in the operational environment also underscores the importance of
trust in cooperative leadership. The owner's expertise is emphasized in all the fields
of economic life that belong to the sphere of the cooperative. We in Pellervo offer our
customers a cooperative forum, union leadership and business leadership for the continuous
development of both know-how and cooperation.
A cooperative forum for Pellervo members
The success and development of the company is crucially dependent on the cooperative
skills of the people involved. This is especially important between the union and
management. To increase and develop these cooperative skills we offer a variety of

Pellervo operates in the field of publication to promote and to publicise the
philosophy of cooperative thinking.

- is a publication for people interested in country living. The bulletin seeks to promote economic well being, democratic
values and mutual understanding between people of different interests, within the context

Pellervo Day

Jointly Owned Service Associations
The services provided by our jointly owned service associations ensure the multiplicity

individual and specialized organisation directed by its own administration, which offers

Pellervo Institute, Inc. - education and development services
The purpose of this service is to help personnel and appointed representatives to
develop themselves through quality continuing education. By supporting the cooperative's
ideas and advancing the professional skills of the participants, we at Pellervo help our
members to succeed in the competitive world of the open market.
Pellervo provides educational services through the Pellervo Institute, Inc., which is

Pellervo Economic Research PTT
The aim of economic research is to provide new knowledge and bring forth new
perspectives critical problems of the national economy. Also, we aim to obtain information
in order to help those businesses dependent on the land for a living to function more

The main function of our market research services is to help the farming and forestry
industries, as well as related private and public organizations, to succeed in the
domestic and foreign markets. In order to accomplish this, we at the market research
department produce on commission market reports and opinion evaluations. In addition, we

The Elintarviketieto - Food Facts Oy (ETT), which is jointly owned by Pellervo and the
Finnish Gallup, Inc., is in charge of research projects.

To safeguard the interests of Pellervo Confederation of Finnish Cooperatives´
